CMT Artists of the Year Honorees Florida Georgia Line Love What They Do

2014 Has Been a Wild Ride for Country Music’s Top Duo

In 2014, Florida Georgia Line made sure everyone knew how they rolled. After another banner year raking in awards and selling out concert venues across the nation, they’ll be honored during the CMT Artists of the Year special on Tuesday (Dec. 2).

Their most recent achievement came at the CMA Awards, where they were crowned vocal duo of the year for a second consecutive time.

“Our fans, most importantly, night after night after night, you continually blow our minds,” said the duo’s Brian Kelley from the stage. “Thank you for letting us do what we love. All we ever wanted to do was play country music.”

They certainly had plenty of opportunities to do so this year as they traveled the country with Jason Aldean as part of his Burn It Down tour. And they also headlined a successful summer stadium tour with “Cruise (Remix)” collaborator Nelly.

“A lot more people are coming out to see us. It’s pretty cool,” said Kelley. “We love our fans. We’re very grateful for them, and it’s cool to see them come out ready to party.”

The duo also slowed things down this year to show a serious side with their sixth chart-topping hit, “Dirt.”

“We can definitely feel all the support and all the love, and I’ll tell you what, it feels amazing,” said Tyler Hubbard. “It motivates us to work hard and to keep pushing ourselves, trying to write better songs and become better artists and treat people better. All around, it’s an amazing feeling to have all the love and support.”

Another high point came in October when they released their sophomore album Anything Goes, which debuted at No. 1 on both the Billboard country album charts and the all-genre Billboard 200.

“To release our second album … that’s something we’ve worked on all year, and it’s big for us,” Hubbard said. “We’re very excited to get that music out, music we’ve been writing for the last couple of years and also preparing for next year’s headlining tour. We’ve had a lot going this year, and we’re just excited, in general -- excited for what’s to come, excited for what’s happened, excited to continue to try to push ourselves to the next level.”

Tune in Tuesday at 8 p.m. ET as CMT recognizes Florida Georgia Line for a second consecutive year -- as well as Jason Aldean, Luke Bryan, Miranda Lambert and Keith Urban -- during the fifth annual CMT Artists of the Year special.
