That’s it: I’m flying south for the winter with my SPF 50 and celebrating Christmas with Kenny Chesney and company. Especially if the superstar’s holiday is remotely anything like his video for the new holiday single “Christmas in Blue Chair Bay.”
White sandy beaches, aviator sunglasses, crystal clear water, fun pals, Blue Chair Bay Rum and Chesney picking guitar in Santa shorts — I mean, what more is there in life?
Kenny actually directed this delightfully DIY video and relied on old home videos of island friends to make it that much more personal and special for his fans.
And he’s taking it a step further for the fans, too — giving them a chance to create their own Christmas card they can share with their nearest and dearest.
“Everybody says stuff like that, but it’s harder to do well than you’d think. Thankfully, the people around me understood I wanted something people could make their own, the way the clip for ‘Christmas in Blue Chair Bay’ really is a lot of my old friends back when,” Chesney confesses.
Fantastic idea. Be sure to send along the single to your loved ones, too. You can’t help but groove along and feel festive, but Chesney admits a holiday tune wasn’t exactly his initial goal when he hit the studio.
“I didn’t set out to write a Christmas song,” he reveals. “I was getting ready for a writing session, and we got to talking about a lot of my trips to the islands. So many of them were around the holidays, people I know, adventures we’ve had and the way you can just savor a day when you don’t have anywhere you have to be.”
No, Kenny, I’m pretty sure there’s some place we have to be, and that’s lounging in Tiki attire with you and your posse on a beach this Christmas.
Alas, if our invitation to set sail happens to get lost before Dec. 25, we’ll always have the single and the new video to keep us warm this winter.
