Florida Georgia Line’s “Sun Daze” Rocks the Joint

No Flip Flops or Flip Cup, But They Got Their Party On at CMT Artists of the Year

Florida Georgia Line coaxed a party vibe out of the glamorous crowd in attendance at Nashville’s Schermerhorn Symphony Center for the 2014 CMT Artist of the Year special.

The red-hot duo took the stage for a grooving, laid-back (but PG) version of their latest single “Sun Daze,” and despite the elegant surroundings, got the audience dancing in their seats and singing along.

Miranda Lambert and record label chief Scott Borchetta were spotted getting into it by the camera, as were the duo’s dates, Kelley’s wife Brittney and Hubbard’s fiancee Hayley Stommel.

With Brian Kelley sporting a vintage Merle Haggard T-shirt (Haggard was to be honored as Artist of a Lifetime later in the evening) and Tyler Hubbard in a stylish vest, their comfort onstage showed exactly why they were selected as honorees.

Rapper Wiz Khalifa, frequently cited by the duo as an influence and someone they’d like to collaborate with, presented them their award and remarked that he was also proud to be a fan of theirs.

After a short video segment featuring footage of their wins on the ACM Awards, CMA Awards and CMT Music Awards, Kelley and Hubbard took the stage to say a few words.

“It still feels like the first time, every time,” marveled Hubbard.

“We moved to Nashville with this crazy dream to play country music,” Kelley said.

He then added, “Florida Georgia Line is so much bigger than Brian and Tyler. … It’s whoever wants to join the team.”
