Hunter Hayes Shows PDA at People’s Choice Awards

Hayes, Underwood and Lady Antebellum Score Trophies

Of course there was a handful of country winners on the People’s Choice Awards on Wednesday night (Jan.7). But first, we should probably talk about the other big things that happened.

Is this Libby Barnes, his date to the 2014 CMA Awards? If so, she looked much, much different. Anyway, he gave her a big ol’ kiss when he won favorite male country artist, so I think it’s safe to assume she wasn’t just a seat filler.

Next up, The Band Perry’s Reid Perry had his hair in a half-up, half-down man bun. Instead of the very long shag he normally wears. It was so nice to see his face for a change.

As for the nominees and winners, those are all chosen by the fans. So it’s not the usual suspects over and over. It kind of kept things interesting.

Favorite male country artist: Hunter Hayes

Favorite female country artist: Carrie Underwood

Favorite country group: Lady Antebellum

The best country speech of the night, as chosen by me, has to go to Hayes, when he won his PCA.

“Wow. That’s quite the category, and I don’t know what I’m doing with this. I have unbelievable parents who believed in my obsession with music,” he said, adding that he had the best fans in the world. “Thanks for giving me a voice, and thanks for giving me a reason to believe in myself.”

Alison makes her living loving country music. She's based in Chicago, but she's always leaving her heart in Nashville.
