CMT Strikes First at College Football Championship

Toby Keith, Lady Antbellum and More Perform at 'Ultimate Kickoff Party'

CMT got college football’s national championship weekend started with the live Ultimate Kickoff Party Friday night (Jan. 9), blowing the lid off of Dallas’ Convention Center with some of the biggest names in entertainment.

Actor and comedian Rob Riggle hosted, while superstars like Toby Keith and Jake Owen took the stage.

With the help of Redneck Island’s Jessie James Decker, the event was a trending topic on social media throughout the night. But it was music and college football that were truly at the core of the first-ever concert special.

Arguably, one of the highlights was the moment Lady Antebellum stepped onstage with pop star Aloe Blacc for an unforgettable take on Blacc’s dance hit, “Wake Me Up.”

The bar continued to lift higher and higher with each artist to perform, from Keith’s back-in-the-day sing-along “Beer for My Horses” to Big & Rich’s latest heartwarming ballad, “Look at You.”

Other performers included Thomas Rhett, Brett Eldredge and Maddie & Tae, and by the end of the night, concertgoers were in full-on kickoff mode, ready for an exciting weekend of football to come.
