Dolly Parton Making Moves as Movie Producer

She’s Developing Made-for-TV Films for NBC

Dolly Parton has signed a development deal with NBC, and she’ll apparently be in the producer’s chair for a slate of two-hour TV movies based on her songs, stories and incredible life.

“We want to create projects for NBC that are both fun and inspirational with a family audience in mind,” the entertainment icon said when she announced the new venture.

And you can bet she’ll do it with her signature style and success. I mean, what field of entertainment has she not conquered?

She’s won 10 Grammys, 10 CMA awards, ACM awards and holds the title with Beyoncé as the Grammy's most-nominated woman of all time.

She’s been twice-nominated for an Oscar for her original songs “9 to 5” and “Travelin’ Thru,” which was featured in the critically-acclaimed film Transamerica.

And we can’t forget her own acting career, including Golden Globe nominations for her roles in 9 to 5 and The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas. And we could go on all day about her unforgettable roles like Truvy in Steel Magnolias and Shirlee Kenyon in Straight Talk or those fabulous TV cameos in The Simpsons and Designing Women.

A timeline for Parton’s TV movies has not yet been revealed, but you know it will be the worth the wait. After all, it’s Dolly.
