Carrie Underwood Will Watch Grammys at Home

Singer Calls Lady A for Baby-on-Tour Advice

Carrie Underwood won’t be at the Grammys this year. I mean, she’ll be there in spirit. She just can’t be there in person.

She told Now With Ryan Fox she wishes she could go to Los Angeles for the show, but the timing’s not right. (She is, I think, in her third trimester.)

Embedded from w.soundcloud.com.

“Traveling at this point is not in the cards for me,” she said. “But I will be eagerly watching and fingers crossed and all that.”

As for her nominations, she admitted she never assumes anything.

“You just never know. You always hope,” she said. “You just cross your fingers and hope that somebody somewhere likes what you’re doing. I try not to think about it too much, or I’ll just be super nervous.”

Her “Something in the Water” is nominated for best country solo performance, and her duet with Miranda Lambert on “Somethin’ Bad” is up for best country duo/group performance.

After the Grammys — and after the baby boy is born — it sounds like Underwood is excited about hitting the road. She’ll be taking baby steps, though.

“I was gonna take some time off, but I got all of my baby ducks lined up in a row and was like, ‘I’m kind of bored, so I’m gonna go write some more,’” she said. “I have a few shows this summer that I’m really excited about. And I’m excited to see how a baby fits into bus life. We’ve had to go back and design a bus. I was calling (Lady Antebellum’s) Hillary Scott and was like, ‘What do you do with a baby on tour?’”

Scott’s first daughter Eisele is only 18 months old, but she’s already a seasoned veteran of the road.

Alison makes her living loving country music. She's based in Chicago, but she's always leaving her heart in Nashville.
