Tim McGraw to Sing Glen Campbell's Song at Academy Awards

He’ll Perform Oscar-Nominated “I’m Not Gonna Miss You”

Tim McGraw will take the stage during the upcoming Academy Awards on behalf of country music icon Glen Campbell to perform the Country Music Hall of Fame member’s Oscar-nominated song “I’m Not Gonna Miss You.”

McGraw’s performance will serve as a heartfelt dedication to Campbell from everyone in the country music family who has shown love and support to Campbell and his family since the icon first revealed his struggle with Alzheimer’s.

The beautiful and incredibly moving tune captures Campbell’s personal experience with the disease and laments the memory of his wife and family. Nominated in the best original song category, “I’m Not Gonna Miss You” is featured in Glen Campbell … I’ll Be Me, a film documentary which chronicles his final tour. Campbell wrote the song with producer Julian Raymond.

Campbell’s family asked McGraw if he’d be willing to sing the song at the Academy Awards.

“We are thrilled that Tim McGraw will be singing ‘I’m Not Gonna Miss You’ on Glen’s behalf at the Academy Awards,” the family said in a written statement. “Glen was always a fan of his music, and Tim is sure to bring great emotional depth to the performance.”

For McGraw, a lifetime fan of Campbell, the chance to perform the song is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.

“I’m honored to be asked to sing this powerful song from one of the true legends of the music industry,” McGraw said.

The 87th annual Academy Awards will air live Feb. 22 on ABC.
