The show featuring “We Are Tonight” singer Billy Currington and newcomer Chase Bryant and is a stop on McGraw’s Shotgun Rider tour. McGraw’s single of the same name just reached the No. 1 summit of Billboard’s country airplay chart.
It’s been a big week for the superstar, who took the spotlight at Sunday’s (Feb. 22) Academy Award ceremony to perform what would become one of the show’s most memorable moments — a beautiful but heart-wrenching rendition of Glen Campbell’s “I’m Not Gonna Miss You.”
McGraw hit the red carpet before the show alongside his wife Faith Hill with details on how the performance came to be.
“I understand his family will be in the audience?” asked ABC’s Lara Spencer.
“Yeah, it’s gonna be an emotional moment, for sure,” McGraw replied. “You know, the film was incredible, and the song was very special, so I’m honored to be able to be here to do that.
“I’m a huge fan of Glen Campbell’s,” he continued. “I think the legacy that he’s left across the musical landscape is just incredible. He’s transcended all genres with the kind of music that he’s made — playing guitar on so many records in the ‘60s from the Beach Boys and some of the great songs that he’s had like ‘Wichita Lineman’ and ‘Rhinestone Cowboy.’ He’s just a true artist.”
The Shotgun Rider tour will make its next stop at the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo in early March, and McGraw’s upcoming movie Tomorrowland will hit theaters May 22.
