Kelly Clarkson Is “More Than That”

Her Peaceful New Mother's Intuition

If you think you know Kelly Clarkson, you might have to rethink that.

She’s not just the original American Idol winner anymore.

“I love what I do, but I feel like I relied on my career a lot for my self-worth,” Clarkson told People. “And now I’m more than that.”

More, because this isn’t 2002 anymore, and so much has changed for Clarkson since she became an overnight sensation after winning that first season of Idol. She married Brandon Blackstock (Reba’s stepson), became a stepmom to his son and daughter and gave birth to their daughter River Rose.

“I’m a mother and a wife and have this whole other thing going on,” she said. “I have a certain level of peace I didn’t know was going to come with it.”

Clarkson credits her best friend with telling her that she wanted to create the family she never had. And she thinks that’s what she is doing now after growing up in a broken home.

“In defense of my family, it happens. People fall out of love, and people go separate ways. People are human. I’ve accomplished a lot, but I guess the biggest success I want is that whenever I die, people will say, ’She was so successful as a mother and as a wife,'” she said. “That’s kind of my big goal.”
