Half the excitement of watching Sunday’s (April 19) Academy of Country Music Awards was the tweeting, retweeting and hashtagging going on throughout the three and a-half hour broadcast. And beyond.
Which made me wonder, what did we ever do without Twitter? How did we know who was wearing what? Who was happy for each other? Why everyone was laughing backstage? And what selfies even were?
It seems like now, if you’re watching a show without Twitter, are you really watching it at all?
And the tweets never stopped coming. Here were some of my favorite tweets from the night.
Blake Shelton: “Well, I’ve officially drank too much to drive today. Which means I’m ready to host a live television show tonight.”
Justin Moore: “Great night, except for my pants ripping to my ‘you know what’ right before I presented. Oh well. Fun stuff. #ACMawards50”
Keith Urban: “Can you guess who this is on my shirt? He’s a legend, he’s a badass, and he’s a Texan!” And then a follow-up answer, “This is of course, one of my heroes DON WILLIAMS!!!” And another one at the end of the night, “Yo @LukeBryanOnline – CONGRATS BROTHER !!!!!!”
Lee Brice: “I love this man @garthbrooks.”
Cole Swindell, who walked the red carpet with a fan Katarina — just a country girl who loves country music, according to her Twitter bio — on his new artist win: “Thank you thank you thank you Country Radio, Down Home Crew and friends & family! I wanted this so bad for y’all. Couldn’t do this without all of you and I’m SO proud to be the @acmawards#NewArtistOfTheYear.. Thanks for letting me do what I love!”
Garth Brooks, from the flight home after the show: “All my love, gratitude and respect! Thank you!! love love love, g #GarthGram.”
Brett Eldredge: “You can’t not love @taylorswift13 … congrats T, you took me on your tour when I needed it the most and I won’t forget it!” and “George Strait is smoother than a buttermilk pancake … THE MAN!!!”
