Cadillac Three Strike With "White Lightning"

Trio's New Single Passes the Test at Their Concerts

Sometimes you hear a song and it stops you in your tracks. That’s kind of what happened the first time I heard “White Lightning,” the latest offering from the Cadillac Three.

As any artist will tell you, the process of giving birth to a new song can be a daunting one. You have the initial idea, then comes the hook or a lyric (in no particular order). Then you dare to play it for peers and friends, and if all goes well, you take the plunge and record it.

Then comes the really big question: What will the fans think?

There’s only one way to find out. For the Cadillac Three’s Jaren Johnston, the fans’ opinion is one to be held in high value.

“The real test is getting out there and playing it for kids and seeing how they react,” he said recently.

“When they buy a shirt that says ‘Lookin’ for a Party Like Me,’ then they’re into it,” he adds.

With singles like “Party Like You” and “The South,” the trio of Johnston, Kelby Ray and Neil Mason have been some of the most-buzzed about writers and musicians on the scenes in recent months.

Don’t believe me? Just get online. On Facebook, Instagram and Twitter, the fans do not hold back their love for the group. That’s another encouraging thing for Johnston and his bandmates, especially with the release of this highly-anticipated new single.

“You get on your Twitter and you see 15 hits from a show that there’s a hundred kids there -- and they are all asking about ‘White Lightning,’ when they can get it,” Johnston said. “That’s making an impact right there. … That’s your real research, to me.”

The good news? The wait is over. “White Lightning” is now available on iTunes.
