I have no doubt that Tim McGraw, the actor, can be a total jerk. Remember him in Friday Night Lights? It was so easy to hate him in the role of the abusive Charles Billingsley.
But that was just one role in one movie. Now that he’s going to be a television show about bad guys — and he’s bad guy No. 1 — how will he do week after week?
According to Deadline.com, McGraw is going to produce and star in Robbers, a new TNT drama about two guys on a crime spree in Texas, the cop chasing them and the girl in the middle of it all.
The author of the book that the show is based on, Christopher Cook, is working with the director on the TV adaptation.
Cook’s website describes the story like this: “Two drifters on the prowl in a stolen Caddy ragtop. A woman on the run from a killing she couldn’t help. And a tough but aging Texas Ranger with a nose for chasing down fugitives. Put them all on the road in a chase across Texas … then watch the mayhem unfold in a twisting tale full of surprises at every turn.”
And his site also says Robbers has been under film option off and on in the U.S. for the past 10 years, both for feature film and TV.
Do you think it’s safe to say that once McGraw signed up to play Ray Bob, the project suddenly got the green light?
