American Idol is coming to a close, so how are we supposed to get our weekly TV fix of Keith Urban?
The curtain will come down on the beloved singing show in 2016 next year with Harry Connick Jr., Jennifer Lopez and Urban all returning as judges for the show’s farewell season.
For fans of the show, this is surely a hard pill to swallow. Thanks to the singing competition, the world found a future superstar in Texas native Kelly Clarkson, now one of the most beloved singers on the planet.
Shortly after Clarkson, we were introduced to a beautiful, shy blonde from Oklahoma named Carrie Underwood, whose powerful pipes have solidified her place as an international superstar.
And that’s just the tip of the iceberg. When Urban joined the show as a judge during season 12, he became an ambassador for country music (much like Blake Shelton did when he became a coach on NBC’s The Voice).
Urban’s inherent classiness, tact, and kindness — combined with his incredibly diverse musical taste, talent and passion — made him the perfect person to show the world that country music and musicians are far more than pickup trucks and cowboy boots.
Even though we prepare to mourn the show’s end, we can be grateful that Urban will be there through the final episode to remind the world that country is — and always will be — the ultimate in cool.
