Keith Urban to Perform New Single on 2015 CMT Music Awards

"John Cougar, John Deere, John 3:16" First Music From Upcoming Album

Keith Urban is releasing a new single, “John Cougar, John Deere, John 3:16,” and will perform it live Wednesday night (June 10) during the 2015 CMT Music Awards. The awards show airs from Nashville’s Bridgestone Arena at 8 p.m. ET/PT.

Written by Shane McAnally, Ross Copperman and Josh Osborne, it’s the first music revealed from Urban’s upcoming album. He previewed it to radio programmers in February during an appearance at Nashville’s Ryman Auditorium during Country Radio Seminar.

“'John Cougar, John Deere, John 3:16’ was sent to me a few months ago by one of the songwriters, and I loved it immediately,” Urban said. “Loved it so much that right before I walked out onstage at the Ryman for CRS a few months back, I thought I’d play the song solo acoustic to see what the audience thought. Flash forward, and there's no doubt that their response that day helped make it the first single from what will be my next album.”

Urban said the up-tempo track “resonated deeply” with him.

“It’s the poetic use of the three Johns and what each represents to me,” he said.

“John Cougar, John Deere, John 3:16” will be delivered to country radio stations Tuesday morning and will be available for purchase and streaming at midnight ET.

His most recent album, Fuse, was released in 2013.
