Gilbert, one of the most genuine and generous country stars you’ll ever meet, showed just how big his heart truly is earlier this week, when he handed over his awards show tickets to one truly deserving veteran — Staff Sgt. Justin Patterson, who served five tours of duty in Iraq as a U.S. Army sniper.
Patterson met the country star over the recent Memorial Day weekend during a motorcycle ride to support the Wounded Warrior Project’s new Rolling Odyssey program and celebrate the release of Gilbert’s Just as I Am: Platinum Edition,
Patterson was so grateful for his commitment to our nation’s veterans, he gave his first Purple Heart medal to Gilbert during the ride. Moved by the gesture, Gilbert wanted to honor his new friend.
“I’ll never be able to thank you enough for your gift when we were on the ride,” Gilbert told him in a personal video message that aired during a recent airing of Fox & Friends. “It means more to me than you’ll ever know.”
