Kacey Musgraves Covers Redbook

Maybe it’s me and my rose-colored glasses, but it seems like country singers are more and more avoiding any and all of those rock star ways. They’re all into working out, doing yoga, eating right, drinking less and avoiding the temptations of the road.

And now we can add Kacey Musgraves to that list.

In a cover story for the new issue of Redbook, the singer-songwriter reveals how she’s managed to avoid any kind of out-all-night, party-girl reputation.

“I’ve always been pretty even-keeled, but I’ve had really good people around me,” she said. “I’ve had my boyfriend (Misa Arriaga) on the road with me for a couple of years because he’s in our band. I think the craziest thing we do is venture out and find a Thai place on Yelp that we’ve never been to. We might jam a little bit and have some wine.”

And that may come as a surprise to anyone who thought she was somewhat controversial because of a couple of somewhat controversial lyrics in her song “Follow Your Arrow” off her debut album. But in song and in life, Musgraves is all about self-acceptance. Especially when it comes to being cool with the fact that not everyone is going to love her music.

“I’ve come to conclusion that people are always going to find a way to be offended about something, and it’s almost like they want to be. I won’t be everybody’s cup of tea,” Musgraves said. “I’ve found peace in that.”

Alison makes her living loving country music. She's based in Chicago, but she's always leaving her heart in Nashville.
