Kip Moore "Loved Every Second" of Widespread Panic

Singer Recalls First Concert in Late '90s

Because Kip Moore is wearing a John Cougar Mellencamp T-shirt in his “I’m to Blame” video, when I sat down with Moore on Friday (June 19) in Chicago, I had to tell him that that John Cougar was my very first concert.

Which led to us talking about the first concert Moore ever saw and how much he loved his first taste of live music back then.

“It was Widespread Panic at the Oak Mountain Amphitheatre outside of Birmingham, Alabama,” Moore recalled. “I remember being 18 and just loving every second.”

Which led us to talking about live music in general and how much he loves it now that he's the one onstage.

“Festivals all have different energies. And this one (Windy City LakeShake) is general admission, and that’s the best. For me, anyway. So I can be up close with the fans,” he told me.

When there are rows and rows of VIP seats and his fans are forced to stand behind them, Moore said he wishes he could jump off the stage and run out to be closer to the fans.

“If they can’t be up front,” Moore said, “I always want to go out to them.”
