Canaan Smith Scores His First No. 1 Single

Tourmates Dierks Bentley, Kip Moore and Maddie & Tae Celebrate the News Onstage

Newcomer Canaan Smith is celebrating his first-ever No.1 single this week with “Love You Like That,” and it’s been made even more special with the help of a few friends.

In celebration of the milestone, tourmates Dierks Bentley, Kip Moore and Maddie & Tae pranked the singer onstage in Bristow, Virginia, during his performance of the song.

“Love You Like That” is the first single from Smith’s debut album, Bronco, and the track has taken the lead spot on Billboard’s country airplay chart, selling more than 600,000 units since its release.

“I’m a little bit oil and water, you know,” the Virginia native said recently. “My water has a little bit of honesty to it. My upbringing was just sort of founded in faith and truth, but the oil side of me is just … I’m a hot-head when I need to be. I’m pretty hot-headed, and I think all of that together just makes me who I am and what I’m all about.”

Much the same, Smith says the album is packed with a good mix of upbeat, high-energy songs and some that slow it down a bit, as well.

“It starts off real mysterious and dangerous with ‘Good Kind of Bad’ and it ends on ‘Bronco’” he said. “I think we’ve got something that really leads the listener through my life and pieces of who I am.”

Smith continues his run on Bentley’s 40-city Sounds of Summer tour during the next couple of months.
