Chris Young needed to get this off his chest.
“Look, we made a sexy video,” he told me when he played Chicago on Saturday (July 11). “There’s nothing to hide there.”
And, yes, his new video for “I’m Comin’ Over” is a little more risqué than some of his others. But somehow, Young never really crosses any lines. There are sexy texts but no sexts. There is a little backseat lovin’ but no straight-up nudity. And there is an elevator make-out session, but it doesn’t go too far. Which is exactly the idea.
“I think there’s a way of being sexy without being dirty. And there’s a way to be romantic while still being sexy,” he explained.
Young wrote the song with Corey Crowder and Josh Hoge, and it is the lead single off his next album due out later this year, an album he told me is different — but not too different. He used a new band in the studio and co-produced this one for the first time. But still, Young is Young.
“At this point, I sound like what I sound like,” he said. “I stretched for this one, and you always want to grow. But you also don’t want to alienate any of your fans.”
