“I’ve already gotten my heart rate up,” he tells CMT Hot 20 Countdown. “I’ve never really gotten my cardio in while doing a music video.”
“If you’ve been to a concert of mine, you know that me and my whole band, we never sit still,” he says. “We’re always moving. So if I can incorporate the real Thomas Rhett that’s onstage into a video, then I’m gonna do it.”
“Crash and Burn” has steadily been climbing Billboard’s country charts and comes on the heels of a string of Rhett’s No. 1 hits, including “It Goes Like This”, “Get Me Some of That” and “Make Me Wanna.”
“The song just really caught me in a weird way the first time I heard it,” he says. “I think I didn’t really even listen to the words. The melody and the way that it was done really enthralled me a little bit.”
The catchy track is the first single from Rhett’s second album, Tangled Up, set for release on Sept. 25.
“They always call it the sophomore album pressure or whatever,” he admits. “But I’m kinda oddly at peace writing the new project. It’s definitely different, but it’s definitely where I’m at musically, lyrically, melodically.
“This song is definitely a pretty good representation of the record. There’s still a lot of stuff that you’re going to listen to and think, ‘Man, that’s a lot of the first record,” because that’s still a part of me. But we’re branching out in a lot of other areas, as well. It’s going to be a lot of fun.”
