Taylor Swift Welcomes Natalie Maines at L.A. Concert

Swift Sings Dixie Chicks Song for the 7,001th Time

On Monday night (Aug. 24), Taylor Swift brought a special guest onstage at her Los Angeles show. A very, very special guest — the kind of guest who has really been there for Swift since she was a little kid buying CDs and playing talent shows.

Natalie Maines, lead singer of the Dixie Chicks.

“If not for this woman and her band, I would not have known that you can be quirky and fun and yourself and outspoken and brave and real,” Swift said before revealing her identity.

“When I was 9 years old and got her first CD, I wouldn’t have dreamed the things I dreamed, and I wouldn’t be standing on this stage today,” she added.

Then, to introduce the song “Goodbye Earl,” Swift admitted that she’d performed it a few times before.

“The song we’re about to sing was my go-to talent show song. I’ve sung it probably 7,000 times in my life,” she said, right before Maines walked out to sing. “And I have a question? Do we have any Dixie Chicks fans?”

Alison makes her living loving country music. She's based in Chicago, but she's always leaving her heart in Nashville.
