Carrie Underwood received quite a helping of Southern hospitality Friday night (Sept. 18) in Atlanta.
Just call it fans’ way of saying “thank you” to the singer for giving them one heck of a free show as part of CMT’s Instant Jam series.
Dressed to impress in a killer pair of cowgirl booties, a tank top/sparkling vest combo and a pair of black shorts perfect for showing off those famously toned legs, Underwood hit the stage for a packed house at The Variety Playhouse in the heart of the city’s eclectic and hip Little Five Points neighborhood. And fortunately, I was in the house to witness the magic.
The singer blew us all away with hits like “Good Girl,” “Last Name,” “Undo It,” “Wasted,” and of course, “Blown Away.” And then there was her newest single “Smoke Break,” where she strapped on an acoustic guitar and strummed like a pro while belting the song to the back row.
But the most poignant moment of the night had to be when the Oklahoma beauty slowed things down to say a heartfelt thanks for our love and support over the years.
As the music began for her debut country hit “Jesus, Take the Wheel,” she encouraged us to sing along if we knew the lyrics. By the end of first chorus, we were all singing the song for her — it was a moving moment for everyone.
CMT Instant Jam: Carrie Underwood premieres Oct. 17, at 10 p.m. ET/PT. Her new album Storyteller is set to hit stores Oct. 23.
