George Strait Announces Strait to Vegas Dates

New Single "Cold Beer Conversation" Headed to Radio

During a live-streamed press conference from the MGM Grand Hotel on Tuesday (Sept. 22), George Strait made two big announcements. He's going to play Las Vegas, and he has new music. So it looks like the cowboy didn't ride away, after all.

The brand new 19,000-seat Las Vegas Arena will host George Strait starting in April 2016, when he kicks off his handful of Strait to Vegas shows. The first four dates announced are April 22, April 23, September 9 and September 10. Kacey Musgraves will be opening those shows.

Strait will also be releasing a new song to radio on Wednesday (Sept. 23). It's called "Cold Beer Conversation" and comes from his upcoming album of the same name.

During the press conference, Strait took questions from reporters and talked about his climb up the ladder of venues in Las Vegas, including the earliest shows at the Frontier, the Hilton and the Golden Nugget. And when CMT's Katie Cook asked him whether or not he's actually had any time off since his last tour, Strait admitted to a little golfing and a little fishing.

Before the announcement, there was a video of Strait talking about his iconic career.

"Every time I go in the studio, I want to make the best album that I've ever done in my life," he said. "There's no formula that I can say, 'This is how you do it.' I just know a song that fits me when I hear it."

Strait also opened up about how fortunate he's been to play the places he has.

"Who gets to do that? You can't take that for granted. That's just so special," Strait said about his live shows. "It's hard to describe to anybody what that feels like because it's just big. When I'm sitting in a rocking chair and can't hardly move around, years from now, just play me that live record where I can hear that crowd again, because it's like nothing else."
