Charles Kelley, Coming Soon to a Club Near You

Exclusive: Solo Shows to Start This Fall

Now that the word is out about Charles Kelley working on some music by himself -- on the side, without his Lady Antebellum family -- he just revealed to CMT Radio that he’s going on tour.

And he has some big plans for some small rooms.

“I’m going to go out in the late fall into the winter and do some clubs that I’ve always dreamt of doing,” Kelley told CMT’s Cody Alan. “I want to take it down and dirty—just go do the club tour. I’ve always wanted to do that. I want to feel all the people all around me up close. I want to smell the beer coming out of the bar. And I want to throw the set list out, and just play.”

Kelley said that when his team asked him if he’d like to be an opener for a headliner, he said no.

“I said, ‘Honestly man, Lady Antebellum kind of skipped all these levels. It just happened so fast, and we were opening up for Martina McBride before we knew it, playing arenas.' We kind of skipped the club thing,” he explained.

(He must not remember driving all the way to Chicago to play Joe’s Bar for $200 when he was the front man of the Charles Kelley Band, and he was opening for Emerson Drive.)

While there are no tour dates announcments yet, this club tour will kick off soon. Very soon. Because Kelley’s wife Cassie is due with their first baby in February, and she told him he had wrap up the tour by the end of January.
