Kacey Musgraves Is Practically Perfect as Mary Poppins

She Sings "Spoonful of Sugar" on We Love Disney

I wish I could report that all of the country singers I love have just committed to taking the stage to put on a huge Broadway production of Mary Poppins.

That Blake Shelton would be Bert, Tim McGraw and Faith Hill would be George and Winifred Banks, Carrie Underwood would be Ellen, Eric Church would be Constable Jones, Miranda Lambert would be Mrs. Brill, Jason Aldean would be Robertson Ay, and of course, Kacey Musgraves would be the thoroughly adored flying nanny Mary Poppins.

I can’t, but I wish I could.

What I can tell you, though, is that Musgraves has at least played the part of Mary Poppins on a new compilation album called We Love Disney.

She put her quiet country spin on “Spoonful of Sugar,” the part of the story where Poppins is telling Jane and Michael Banks to clean their room, and that in every job that must be done there is an element of fun.

Another countried track on the album — due out Oct. 30 — is the Rascal Flatts/Lucy Hale collaboration on “Let It Go,” from Frozen.

Alison makes her living loving country music. She's based in Chicago, but she's always leaving her heart in Nashville.
