The Story Behind Carrie Underwood’s Storyteller

"I Just Hope People Get It," She Says

Country music is all about the story — just ask superstar Carrie Underwood.

Her “more traditional” new album is out today (Oct. 23), and comes with a host of characters and life moments that take us from darkness to light and everywhere in between.

So when it came time to pick a name for her latest masterpiece, the title Storyteller just “kind of stood out” to the singer.

“That’s what we do, you know?” Underwood told in a recent sit-down interview. “As a writer, as an artist, as a performer, that’s what we do.”

It’s about holding an audience captive in that moment, and that’s a great gift that Underwood is very thankful to experience when she performs.

“I get to stand onstage and hopefully kind of draw people in to other characters or these things that we’ve written about or my own personal experience or something — a song I’ve picked that I really relate to.”

And this album is full of those types of songs.

The superstar’s one wish for the big project?

“I just hope people get it,” she said.
