There Is Carrie Underwood, Then There Is Just Carrie

How She’s Living Out Fantasies Onstage

In the most recent issue of Cosmopolitan, Carrie Underwood talks pretty openly about who she is. And also, and perhaps more importantly, who she is not.

So there are two sides to this cover story.

“When I am onstage, I am not Carrie: I am Carrie Underwood,” she says.

“Obviously, I would never run off to Vegas and get drunk and marry a guy or trash some guy’s car,” Underwood says of her alter egos from her hit songs “Last Name” and “Before He Cheats.”

She doesn't say this, but I also suspect she would never collaborate with her husband's mistress on his murder, like she did in "Two Black Cadillacs." Nor would she let her abusive, alcoholic father die in a tornado like she did in "Blown Away."

“But everybody has had somebody who’s cheated on them or some jerk they dated. Think of all the things you would do to them if you just had the guts or there were no consequences," she said. “It’s fun to become those characters and live out those fantasies onstage. Then I go home and I am just, ’Hey babe.’”
