Miranda Lambert: Drink, Eat, Enjoy Life

Why Should Weight Be a Big Deal?

When Miranda Lambert lost 20 pounds recently, people kind of lost their minds.

“I was disappointed in people. I shouldn’t have been surprised, but I was like, I have the same music, and you’re only talking about me now because I lost weight,” she told Cosmopolitan in the magazine’s January issue. She has kept that weight off by watching what she eats and touring hard. But at the same time, she didn’t get weird about it.

“I live big and happy. I go out with friends all the time. I love to drink and eat and enjoy things. It’s important to me. I want to be healthy and fit, but it shouldn’t be that big of a damn deal,” Lambert said.

Before she lost the weight, she was a comfortable size 8. So … much, much smaller than the size 14 the average American woman wears.

“I almost always wore a size 8,” she explained. “But everybody acted like I was morbidly obese. You go to Nordstrom and you look for an 8, and they’re gone. Guess why. Because everybody’s a size 8.”

Alison makes her living loving country music. She's based in Chicago, but she's always leaving her heart in Nashville.
