Chris Stapleton, Thomas Rhett Still Cap Country Charts

Chris Young, Maren Morris Debut New Singles

The charts are barely stirring this week, but if you listen closely you can detect a heartbeat.

Chris Stapleton’s Traveller continues its long stay atop the Billboard country albums chart, while Thomas Rhett’s “Die a Happy Man” settles in for its third week as country radio’s most-played song.

Nor is there a substantial infusion of fresh music. In fact there are no new albums at all to note and only two new songs. The latter are Chris Young’s “Think of You,” featuring Cassadee Pope, which checks in at No. 58, and Maren Morris“My Church,” arriving at No. 59.

A Thousand Horses“(This Ain’t No) Drunk Dial” returns to battle at No. 23.

Seven albums have re-entered the chart, thanks in part to the slots left vacant by the exit of Christmas titles.

Returning are Chase Rice’s Ignite the Night (at No. 26), Sam Hunt’s Between the Pines: Acoustic Mixtape (No. 33) Tyler Farr’s Suffer in Peace (No. 43), Kip Moore’s Wild Ones (No. 44) and A Thousand Horses’ Southernality (No. 45).

Also George Strait’s The Cowboy Rides Away: Live From AT&T Stadium (No. 47) and Colt Ford's Answer to No One: The Colt Ford Classics (No. 49).

Lining up directly behind Traveller in the Top 5 albums parade are Carrie Underwood’s Greatest Hits: Decade #1, Luke Bryan’s Kill the Lights, Sam Hunt’s Montevallo and Underwood’s Storyteller, in that order.

The No. 2 through No. 5 songs are Jason Aldean’s “Gonna Know We Were Here,” LoCash’s “I Love This Life,” Brothers Osborne’s “Stay a Little Longer” and Hunt’s “Break Up in a Small Town.”

Oh, yeah. Happy New Year. And why not?
