Merle Haggard canceled his Tuesday night (Feb. 2) concert at the Fox Performing Arts Center in Riverside, California, but the 78-year-old Country Music Hall of Fame member still plans to join Kris Kristofferson for Wednesday’s sold-out show at the Saban Theatre in Beverly Hills, California.
Haggard, who was hospitalized with double pneumonia in December, canceled two shows this past weekend in New Mexico as a result of the lingering illness.
Ben Haggard, the singer-songwriter’s son and bandmate, posted a photo late Tuesday on Twitter.
Told dad there was a guy praying behind the bus, he looked down and weeped.. Moved by the love from the fans! pic.twitter.com/0yS4VA4iF4

Haggard reposted the photo on his Facebook page and offered a message to fans.
“Thank you to the fans who came out tonight in riverside!” he wrote. “Sadly I’m just not strong enough yet. This man was praying behind my bus and made me realize how much you all care. Thank you so much.”
