Is Luke Bryan Just Following Protocol?

Superstar Calls Songwriters When Tune Hits No. 1

Maybe Luke Bryan does this all the time. Maybe all the country stars do it all the time. Or maybe, this was just a one-time, extra special thing.

When Bryan’s latest single “Home Alone Tonight” made it to the top of the charts, he picked up the phone to call a couple of the song’s writers — Jaida Dreyer and Cole Taylor — to let them know.

The reason we know that is because Dreyer missed his call, and immediately posted an all-caps tweet about that mini tragedy.

“WHEN YOUR PHONE BATTERY DIES AND @LUKEBRYANONLINE LEAVES YOU A VOICEMAIL CONGRATULATING YOU ON WRITING THE #1 SONG IN THE COUNTRY,” Dreyer wrote.

Taylor’s tweet was just as enthusiastic about the call.

“When @LukeBryanOnline calls you on a Saturday night to tell you congrats on a #1 song that you wrote you go party,” he said, complete with two beer emojis.

Dreyer and Taylor wrote the song with Jody Stevens and Tommy Cecil.

Little Big Town‘s Karen Fairchild, who sings with Bryan on the song, told The Tennessean newspaper in Nashville that she is happy for Bryan and for the way the song shot to the top so effortlessly.

“He literally doesn’t understand what it’s like to put a song out and for it not to go right up the charts in 12 weeks. We’ve been so blessed, but that’s just a rarity to put a song out and have it race up the charts,” she said. “His fans just adore him and they’re so loyal.”

Alison makes her living loving country music. She's based in Chicago, but she's always leaving her heart in Nashville.
