Merle Haggard Resumes Tour After Illness

Just Days After Canceling February Tour Dates, He Returned to the Stage Saturday in Las Vegas

Never question Merle Haggard’s work ethic. Following last week’s announcement that he had canceled all of his February tour dates, he was back onstage Saturday (Feb. 6) in Las Vegas and plans to play three more concerts this next week in California.

The 78-year-old Country Music Hall of Fame member was hospitalized in December with double pneumonia and was still too weak to perform shows last week in California.

Despite announcing the remaining February cancellations last week, he performed Saturday at the Mandalay Bay Ballroom in Las Vegas. Toby Keith made a guest appearance and spent 30 minutes onstage with Haggard on several classics, including “Sing Me Back Home” and “Rambling Fever.”

His upcoming California tour dates include stops Wednesday in Santa Rosa, Thursday in Beverly Hills and Saturday in Oakland. The Beverly Hills show, a special engagement with Kris Kristofferson at the Saban Theatre, was rescheduled from Feb. 3.
