Two years before Reese Witherspoon was born in 1976, Lynyrd Skynyrd’s “Sweet Home Alabama” was born.
Then in 2002, Witherspoon starred in a movie of the same name.
So it makes perfect sense that in 2016, to celebrate her 40th birthday, that would be her go-to tune.
Witherspoon invited Keith Urban to be her musical sideman while she sang the song for the guests at her birthday party on Saturday night (March 19). And one of those guests, fashion writer Derek Blasberg, was kind enough to share video on his Instagram page.
“You can take the girl out the South, but you can’t take Sweet Home Alabama out the girl! HAPPY BIRTHDAY @reesewitherspoon, he wrote, tagging Keith Urban.
Taylor Swift was at the party. too, and reportedly performed her crowd favorite “Shake It Off.” Which is the perfect gift when you’re turning 40 — someone telling you to keep cruising, don’t stop grooving, because it’s gonna be all right.
By the way, the photo featured with this story was taken in 2011 when Swift and Witherspoon were visiting at the Academy of Country Music Awards show in Las Vegas.
