“On this album, there are songs about love, life, loss, hope, redemption, gratitude, leaving and coming home,” Martina McBride says in the liner notes on her new album, Reckless, to be released Friday (April 29). “And that’s what this record feels like to me … coming home.”
McBride goes on to thank her dream team producers, all the musicians, singers and songwriters, and her road family and her actual family. Especially her husband John, who she says has been with her “from the reckless times to the beautiful life we have made together.”
Then she gets to the part about Keith Urban.
He sings with McBride on “Diamond,” which was written by Nicole Galyon, Eric Paslay and Liz Rose. The uptempo song compares a woman to a diamond — perfectly imperfect even with a couple of flaws, solid as a rock and always gonna cut through.
So she thanks Urban and Buddy Miller, who sings with her on “The Real Thing,” saying, “The icing on the cake is what you are, and everyone knows the icing is the best part.”
