Blake Shelton Says Only God Saw This Coming

Relationship With Gwen Stefani "Saved My Life, Period"

Blake Shelton is quick to admit that, at least at first, his romance with Gwen Stefani didn’t seem too likely.

“It’s not something anybody could’ve seen coming,” Shelton told CMT Hot 20 Countdown‘s Katie Cook. “Besides God, I guess. Because it doesn’t look like it would make sense. But all I can tell you is it does. It just makes the most perfect sense. For us.”

Shelton and Stefani were both recently divorced when they started dating after getting to know each other on The Voice. Shelton was married to Miranda Lambert for four years before divorcing almost a year ago, in July 2015. At the time, Shelton and Lambert issued a joint statement saying, “This is not the future we envisioned, and it is with heavy heart that we move forward separately.”

Part of moving forward for him meant Stefani.

“I tell people all the time, ‘Gwen saved my life last year.’ I think she would probably tell you something similar about me,” he said, admitting their connection happened fast. “Just all of the sudden, this thing happened. And it saved my life, period.”
