Lady Gaga Takes Keith Urban’s Place at Indianapolis 500

Injury Forced Urban to Cancel Ride With Mario Andretti

The gentlemen started their engines, but Keith Urban wasn’t one of them attending Sunday’s (May 29) Indianapolis 500.

A back injury forced him to cancel on his plans to ride with legendary driver Mario Andretti. Urban was going to perform — just ride in the two-seater with Andretti in front of the pace car at the start of the race.

Lady Gaga took Urban’s place to help kick off the 100th running of the Indy 500.

Andretti had some minor concerns after learning that he would have a different passenger traveling with him.

“She’s going to distract me quite a bit, actually,” he told the Indianapolis Star. “I hope I can just look ahead while I’m driving.”

Alexander Rossi won the race during his first full IndyCar season, and it looks like things worked out just fine for Andretti, too.
