New Dan + Shay Is Worthy of Obsession

Duo Releases Obsessed on Friday

Dan + Shay hope their fans are as obsessed with the new music on their sophomore album as they were making it. Shay Mooney says they wouldn’t have the title track “Obsessed” without them.

“We always listen to our fans on Twitter and are looking at everything they say,” Shay Mooney says. “We would always see ‘Obsessed.’ ‘I’m obsessed with this Dan + Shay song,’ or ‘I’m obsessed with Dan + Shay.’ We ended up writing that song, and it just made sense. It kind of wrapped up everything about this album.”

Their loyal followers pushed the duo to stretch creatively in the studio, and Dan Smyers believes the result is a dynamic 10-song collection.

“We took more chances on it,” Smyers says of the new music. “But we didn’t want to alienate what got us here in the first place. We wrote Dan and Shay songs but we owe it to our fans to step up our game and elevate our songwriting. No two songs sound the same. Every song has its own space.”

The touch of soul in the title track is definitely worthy of obsession. Horns surprise the listener as the duo leads into the chorus, and an extended bridge showcases Mooney’s vocals at their best.

“Obviously Shay is the best singer ever,” Smyers says. “It’s fun to listen to our evolution and get these songs out there. We’re super proud of every single song on the record.”

“I think it’s a new step for Dan + Shay,” Mooney adds. “It’s a little more mature. We’re stoked about it.”
