Maren Morris: Tennessee Saved Her Life

“The Ten-Year-Old Me Couldn’t Wait”

Newcomer Maren Morris probably doesn’t feel like such a newcomer.

Because in her liner notes for her debut album Hero, she says that it took a village to make this album and a whole bunch of patience, too.

“The ten-year-old me couldn’t wait for this to happen,” the 26-year-old Texan wrote. “If I had known back then it would take 16 years for Hero to come to fruition, I probably would’ve gone back to playing with Barbies. Thank God I had people to support and encourage me to no end from the very beginning.”

She goes on to thank her family, plus her friends who were too young to get into her shows but went anyway, her record label team, and what he calls her second Nashville family (and their whole inappropriate group thread).

Morris also thanks the loves, heartbreaks and inspirations that fueled her songs.

And then she thanks Tennessee, for saving her life.

Morris is set to perform with Keith Urban and Brett Eldredge live on Wednesday (June 8) night at the CMT Music Awards.

Alison makes her living loving country music. She's based in Chicago, but she's always leaving her heart in Nashville.
