Keith Urban Lists His Favorite Girls

Mix of Currents and Classics

Way to stump Keith Urban, Billboard.

When a Billboard reporter asked Urban for his list of the top five greatest female country acts of all time, he had a tough time narrowing it down.

“That’s so hard to make that list,” he said before starting it off with two icons, Patsy Cline and Dolly Parton.

But then he managed to keep going, even though he seemed to be caught off guard.

Lee Ann Womack is in there,” Urban says. “And as of right now, for me, Carrie Underwood will go down as one of the great, great singers in country music. Period. Really phenomenal voice.”

Back in April, he talked about having Underwood join him on one of the songs off his new album, saying, “I’ve always loved singing with her.”

When he was down to the very last spot on his list of female singers, he went with another powerhouse.

“I’m gonna say Martina McBride,” he says. “Incredible.”

Urban has had the honor of working with both McBride and Underwood on new projects released this year. He guests on “Diamond” from McBride’s latest album Reckless, while Underwood appears on “The Fighter,” which is on his latest album Ripcord.

Alison makes her living loving country music. She's based in Chicago, but she's always leaving her heart in Nashville.
