Kenny Chesney and Kid Rock Light Up Ford Field

Cover Allman Brothers and More in Detroit

Nearly 46,000 fans greeted surprise guest Kid Rock with deafening applause at Kenny Chesney’s Spread the Love tour stop at Detroit’s Ford Field on Saturday (Aug. 13).

While a fan’s white bra dangled from Chesney’s mic stand, the two lit up the stage with a medley of the Allman Brothers classic “Midnight Rider,” Kid Rock’s 1999 hit “Cowboy” and Hank Williams Jr.’s “Man to Man.” The guest appearance wrapped with a cover of David Allan Coe’s “You Never Even Called Me By My Name.”

The night included sets by Miranda Lambert, Jake Owen and Old Dominion. The next stadium shows on the Spread the Love tour are Saturday (Aug. 20) at MetLife stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey and two nights at Gillette Stadium in Foxboro, Massachusetts starting Aug. 26.

Kid Rock and Jason Aldean will headline Boston’s Fenway Park with Thomas Rhett and A Thousand Horses on Sept. 9. His two-day, second annual Fish Fry at the Fontanel in Nashville starts Oct. 7.

Chesney’s new album Cosmic Hallelujah, featuring his Top 20 duet “Setting the World on Fire” with P!nk, lands Oct. 28.
