Kelsea Ballerini: “Still Be Chill”

Mantra Revealed in Nashville Lifestyles Magazine

There’s a part of the Kelsea Ballerini cover story in the new issue of Nashville Lifestyles magazine where she talks about how actress Blake Lively is her style girl crush.

“I feel like she does the natural girl-next-door, not-too-overdone thing really well, but she’s still super fashionable and super trendy and just adorable. I don’t ever want to be overdone, so, that’s what we really try to do with fashion–just play with it and sparkle it up or whatever,” Ballerini says, “but still be chill.”

Granted, she was just talking about style. But I feel like Ballerini is kind of applying that “still be chill” mantra to everything else in her life. Especially the way she stays connected to her fans.

“I think country fans just want to know you, and I think I know that because I was, and still am, a country fan,” the newcomer says. “The thing that I loved the most about the artists was that I felt like I knew them through their music and through the way they make themselves super available and approachable to their fans, so that’s what I try to be now.”

And even though her rise to fame has been a pretty quick one — her debut single “Love Me Like You Mean It” isn’t even two years old yet — Ballerini seems to embrace every opportunity that’s come her way.

“I’m 22 years old, life is really fun,” she says, “and I’m getting to experience a lot of things I never thought I’d get to, so I’m just really trying to push myself and expand my horizons.”

Alison makes her living loving country music. She's based in Chicago, but she's always leaving her heart in Nashville.
