Exclusive Performance: Lauren Alaina Takes “Road Less Traveled”

Diverse Musical Influences Set the Tone for Georgia Native

Lauren Alaina is all grown up and ready to shine, but the journey to this moment didn’t happen overnight.

The Georgia native was a performer from day one and immersed herself in the music of great females like Aretha Franklin, Dolly Parton, Shania Twain — and Beyoncé.

“Beyoncé is my girl,” she says with a giggle during her CMT Next Women of Country Live chat.

And while her influences covered a wide range of genres, Alaina was able to find a way to bring them together and make them all her own.

“I took the different things I liked from each genre, and it became my sound naturally,” she said. “A lot of my melodies are very R&B and some of my songs are very traditional country. It depends on the song.”

A star-making turn on American Idol gave Alaina the spotlight she deserved and the fans that continue to support and love her. But she still had some important work to do — like figuring out who she is, what she wants to say and how she wants to say it as a person and an artist.

And what a beautiful woman and artist she’s become. Now, Alaina knows exactly what she wants to say.

“And I’m ready to say it,” she says with a confident smile.
