Carrie Underwood Gets Emotional at 2016 'CMT Artists of the Year'

Performs “Like I’ll Never Love You Again” With the Love Junkies

Carrie Underwood got visibly emotional after Olympic gymnasts Aly Raisman and Madison Kocian presented her with her CMT Artists of the Year trophy. But Underwood handled the moment with grace.

“Aw, man,” she said, smiling at her husband Mike Fisher in the audience. “I don’t know why I’m getting teary-eyed. I think it was seeing my little guy on the screens.”

Before Underwood took the stage to accept her award in a stunning Temraza dress, a video montage played, mixing personal family photos with their son Isaiah and footage from her highly successful Storyteller Tour. Since its January 30 launch, the tour attracted more than 800,000 fans.

“Thank you, Mike, for just being so supportive throughout this tour,” she added. “It’s been so much fun being on the road. It’s definitely hard being away from you. But you’re the best. The people I work with, again, I’m just so blessed. I’m so lucky I have the best people surrounding me and thank God for you guys."

Before accepting her award during the TV special that premiered Thursday (Oct. 20), Underwood performed the Storyteller track “Like I’ll Never Love You Again” with the Grammy-winning songwriting team, Hillary Lindsey, Lori McKenna and Liz Rose, who are collectively known as the Love Junkies.

The Storyteller Tour continues through next week with shows in Charlottesville, Virginia and Charlotte, North Carolina. The tour hits Madison Square Garden in New York City on Tuesday (Oct. 25).

The 2016 CMT Artists of the Year special re-airs Friday (9:30 a.m. ET/PT), Saturday (6 p.m. and 12:30 a.m. ET/PT) and Sunday (12 p.m. ET/PT).
