George Strait to Honor Tom Petty

King of Country Joins 2017 MusiCares Person of the Year Tribute

George Strait is among the first round of performers booked to appear onstage at the 2017 MusiCares Person of the Year gala honoring Tom Petty. The event will be held in the West Hall of the Los Angeles Convention Center on Feb. 10.

The night will feature additional performances by Foo Fighters, Don Henley, Norah Jones, Kings of Leon, Randy Newman, Stevie Nicks, Lucinda Williams, Garth Clark Jr., Jeff Lynn, Chris Hillman, Jackson Brown, Elle King, Herb Pedersen, Regina Spektor and the Bangles with T Bone Burnett serving as musical director.

Tom Petty and The Heartbreakers will close the evening’s performances and additional acts are to be announced.

Proceeds from the tribute will support the Recording Academy’s non-profit initiative the MusiCares Foundation, which provides assistance for members of the music community in need. The organization hosts educational workshops covering a variety of subjects, including financial, legal, medical, and substance abuse issues, and programs in collaboration with health care professionals that provide services such as flu shots, hearing tests and medical/dental screenings.

Previous MusiCares person of the year honorees include Tony Bennett, Bob Dylan, Bonnie Raitt, Lionel Richie, Bruce Springsteen, James Taylor, Stevie Wonder and Neil Young.
