Forget the turkey, it’s all about the chicken this Thanksgiving. The critically-acclaimed original documentary, Chicken People, will premiere Nov. 23, at 8 p.m. ET/PT on CMT.
Emmy Award-winning Motto Pictures and Emmy-nominated director Nicole Lucas Haimes teamed up with CMT to bring a charming and fascinating look at the colorful and hugely competitive world of champion show chicken breeders.
“If there was ever a more perfect subject … [that chicken] was like Paris Hilton,” says one chicken show photographer. Watch the trailer below for more amazing soundbites.
A real life Best in Show but about chickens, the film follows the struggles and triumphs of both humans and their feathered muses on the road to compete at the Ohio National Poultry Show, considered the Westminster of Chickens. Chicken may be just food for most people, but raising the perfect chicken is an all-consuming passion for some.
The New York Times calls Chicken People “a fun and at times astonishing film,” while The Los Angeles Times deems it “poignant and illuminating.” The film made its world premiere at the 2016 South by Southwest Film Festival before playing the festival circuit and receiving a limited theatrical release.
