Keith Urban: Absorbing European Music in Australia

Why His Heart Is in Sydney

Keith Urban has brought his Ripcord Tour to Australia, and while he's there for those eight shows and the holidays with his family, he explained exactly why Sydney feels like home.

"Sydney is my favorite city in the whole world, hands down, and I only lived here for two years before I lived in America," he said in an interview with the Australian Associated Press. "Sydney has always felt so home to me, and as soon as Nic and I got married, of course we spent way more time here."

He also called Sydney an amazing place for new music and said he loves to immerse himself in all of it.

"It's so ahead of so many places because it absorbs stuff from Europe and America on the fringes and it represents it here," he said.

Urban added that his own music, specifically the songs on his Grammy-nominated album Ripcord, comes alive onstage.

"I think that was probably subconscious as I was writing a lot of the record," he said. "I'm always thinking about playing live and what songs are going to work."

While Urban is in Sydney, he will be able to see the Australian premiere of his wife Nicole Kidman's latest film, Lion.
