When Cam belts out the title line in “Mayday,” you can feel it in your bones.
One of the most gifted new female lyricists and singers in country music, she stuns with her dynamic pairing of vulnerability and vocal prowess. “Mayday” is a cry for action in a failing relationship: The ship is going down, and the singer doesn’t want to go down with it.
The ship was actually a plane in the case of Cam’s official music video for the song. The California-native channeled pioneer Amelia Earhart in the dazzling, retro-inspired video, but she shines just as brightly in this stripped-down acoustic performance for our CMT Next Women of Country Live series.
Cam’s performance in CMT’s Nashville studio is proof that when a song is that raw and real and powerful, it’s always good.
Next week we’ll feature more exclusive Next Women of Country Live sessions featuring Maren Morris, Lucie Silvas, Mickey Guyton, Brooke Eden, Danielle Bradbery, Jana Kramer, Maggie Rose, Clare Dunn, Kelleigh Bannen, Carly Pearce, Brandy Clark, Ruthie Collins, Lindsay Ell, Courtney Cole, Cassadee Pope and Tara Thompson.
