A statement from Maddie’s hospital obtained by People says she regained consciousness mid-day on Tuesday (Feb. 7), and it appears she has not suffered any neurological consequences from the accident.
“She is aware of her surroundings and recognizes those family members who have kept a round-the-clock vigil since the accident,” Tuesday’s (Feb. 7) statement says. “Doctors were able to remove the ventilator today, and she is awake and talking. Maddie continues to receive oxygen and is being monitored closely.”
Following the update, Jamie Lynn’s husband and Maddie’s stepfather, Jamie Watson, posted on social media, “Thank you to everyone for the prayers. Maddie is doing better and better. Thank y’all so much.”

According to a Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff’s Department, Maddie drove the ATV into a pond on the family property in Kentwood, Louisiana on Sunday (Feb. 5). Maddie was apparently steering the vehicle to avoid running over a nearby drainage ditch. In doing so, she overcorrected, causing the ATV to enter the pond. Both the vehicle and Maddie were instantly submerged.
This happened in full view of her mother and stepfather.
