Oh, young love. It burns the brightest and leaves the hardest of scars.
The first time Jana Kramer ever heard “I Got The Boy,” she knew she had to have it for her album because it hit so close to home.
As it does for so many of us, that painful experience of watching someone from your past move on is universal. I’ve heard this quote before, “You never stop loving your first love.” Or at least you really never stop thinking about them, wondering what happened to them, and finding yourself somewhat shocked when you realize they’ve grown up and are now living the life you imagined you two would share with someone else.
Whew, that’s a hard pill to swallow.
And although Kramer didn’t write the song (fellow Next Women of Country member Jamie Lynn Spears shares that honor with Connie Harrington and Tim Nichols), one listen to Kramer’s emotive performance will tell you she’s been there, experienced that and might on some level still be dealing with it. Her crystal pure voice cracks with pain and aches with longing as she sings, “I got the boy, she got the man.”
Check back each day this month for more exclusive performances from Maggie Rose, Clare Dunn, Kelleigh Bannen, Carly Pearce, Brandy Clark, Ruthie Collins, Lindsay Ell, Courtney Cole, Cassadee Pope and Tara Thompson.
